ROUTES INFORMATION

 Background

Castrojimeno, located in a privileged area of great scenic beauty and geological richness, is recognized by scientists and researchers from different Universities, Organizations and Institutions, according to scientific articles and reports published in various international journals, which endorse it.

This peculiarity and uniqueness, gives the town a great interest not only scientific, but also educational, informative, didactic, cultural and environmental.

From the City Council, there has been an awareness of the need to conserve said geological heritage, to protect it and also put it in value.

Three routes of interest of different duration and content have been made to show it.

ROUTES

ROUTE No. 1. Tour of the main geological places and interest of the Villa de Castrojimeno. This route is the most complete and of the greatest scientific interest.

The Geological Heritage of Castrojimeno, can be almost endless, however, if we want to get an idea of what the Villa de Castrojimeno represents, and the reason for its relevance, this Route of just 4 Kms, and 2 hours in duration, gives a vision of the main elements that allow us to understand the geological history of the town linked to the Iberian Peninsula and Europe in the Upper Cretaceous.

ROUTE No. 2. Tour of the different geological elements of interest in the urban area of Villa de Castrojimeno.

It is a route of little more than 1 kilometer, and 1 hour of duration between route and vision of the signage, where we can observe at certain specific points, both in outcrop and in rocks used for the construction of houses, the main elements that make up the geological heritage of Castrojimeno.

It is important to know one of the basic principles of Geology, what we call Walter's Law. In Geology what is below (in the case of Castrojimeno, towards the East) is the oldest, but apart from this it is related to another element, the fossils. We must imagine a beach, something continuous from the beach area as such (where we put the umbrella), to areas where the effect of the waves is hardly noticeable. Because it is the movement of particles and the energy of the medium that will determine the type of sedimentation, this generates different types of rock. For example, in areas very agitated by the waves, only “thick” particles will remain, while in areas where we do not have waves, there will be more clays or marls.

ROUTE No. 3. Tour through the orchards area that reaches La Fuente Grande, observing the main geological places of interest in the municipal area.

This route is one of the busiest by the inhabitants of the Villa de Castrojimeno, and allows in just under 6 km, and 2 hours of duration, to see some of the main geological elements of the municipal term and especially those related to the forms of the relief and human activity and habitual way of life of the neighbors, with its main spring, “La Fuente Grande”.
